Following the lines of a successful legacy of the Toyota Fortuner since its first global debut, Toyota has recently come forward with a new generation Toyota Fortuner GR Sport version introducing their Gazoo Racing brand. The top-spec Fortuner GR Sports is somewhat based on Toyota Fortuner Legender in terms of aesthetics and only comes mated to a 6-speed fully automatic transmission with Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) powertrain. Also, the Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is expensive with a price difference of Rs 4 lakh as compared to the standard 4X4 Fortuner Legender available in India.

The updated 2023 Toyota Fortuner GR S comes in three colour options with a blacked-out roof, including White Pearl Crystal, Attitude Black and Emotional Red Black. You’ll get to see a few technical, mechanical as well as cosmetic updates. If we are talking about performance, the gr sport fortuner has left no room for more updates in its segment as the same 2.8-litre diesel engine now pumps 224 PS of peak power output and 550 Nm of torque. That is 20 PS and 50 Nm more performance than the outgoing GR Sport model in Thailand.

Coming back to Aesthetics, this version of the Toyota Fortuner GR S looks quite sportier as compared to the standard Toyota Fortuner, that’s focussed more towards a luxury stance. Being based on the Fortuner Legender, the new Fortuner GRS features a fresh revised front and rear bumper with a ram air dam, a new set of fog lamp clusters and GR badging all around the vehicle with a slightly revised front grille.

GR Branded Brake Calipers

The side profile of the vehicle looks more commanding with a set of new 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and red-coloured brake callipers with the GR Sport branding. The rear end of the new Toyota Fortuner GR S receives a body-coloured trim running through the tail lamps and a new bumper.

Moreover, the interior section remains to be the same with little upgrades, including all-black leather suede upholstery with red stitching, GR-branded sports seats, a steering wheel with aluminium pedal shifters, a start-stop button and a key fob. Apart from that, you’ll even notice an improved 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system which now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a new instrument cluster and sportier looking aluminium foot pedals, a wireless charger, a JBL sound system, gesture-controlled tailgate and dual-zone climate control. The Japanese carmaker has even introduced its Toyota Safety Sense systems bringing a suite of safety aids and ADAS features to the SUV. The Tyre pressure monitoring systems are now being offered standard across the Fortuner line-up.

Overall the new generation Toyota Fortuner GR S is a good package for performance enthusiasts with a better air suspension setup tuned by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing team, alongside 7 airbags, traction control, stability control, hill start assist, and much more on offer. If we talk about the Fortuner Line-Up itself, there are now three options to go for; the Standard Fortuner variant starting from Rs 32.16 lakh; the Legender Fortuner starting from Rs 41.09 lakh; and finally the top of the line GR Sport Fortuner.

Dynamic Air Suspension

However, in this price bracket, you have a lot more options to consider for a decent value-for-money package such as the upcoming monocoque-based Jeep Meridian SUV as well as MG Gloster and Mahindra Alturas G4.
