MG Hector definitely garnishes the most affordable premium SUV segment in India by its bold and highly appealing exterior design that is straight away borrowed from the American Version of the 2019 Chevrolet Captiva. Although the MG Hector isn’t that big as it looks in the images. The front end of the car incorporates a massive chrome outlined trapezoidal grille with an MG logo along with those beautiful LED daytime running lamps and down mounted LED headlamps and fog lamps, exactly the same setup that we see on the Tata Harrier. Bodylines of the New MG Hector are placed on the sharper side along with ample of chrome finishes to justify the looks of an aggressive new contender in the market. You might get mistaken for Audi Q3 after looking at the MG Hector from the rear. Yes, you heard that right. All New MG Hector gets an Audi inspired jam-packed rear section which includes full LED tail lamps along with a red reflector strip that connects both the tail light ends of the car. Apart from that, the overwhelmed rear section of the Hector incorporates a silver skid plate with reflectors and twin exhaust pipes. But only one pipe is functional; second is just placed to maintain a decent symmetry of the vehicle. The only thing that leaves its buyers wanting for more are its 17-inch alloy wheels which look kind of small when compared with the overall dimensions of the MG Hector.

Once you climb inside the MG Hector, the first thing that you’ll get to notice is the 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Infinity-tuned eight-speaker audio and a fully digital instrument console. Something which Hector claims to offer as first in the segment. As MG Hector is a proper SUV, space is not at all an issue with the vehicle. Though it doesn’t provide enough comfort for the rear passengers over long trips due to lack of underthai support. The built quality of the interiors is on the harder side with some premium soft finishes on the dashboard. Also, you’ll get to see all black leather seat upholstery in the Hector which makes the car look much more premium over its competitors. To add up an airy feel in the car, MG offers a massive panoramic sunroof, with an electrically operated blind and ambient lighting in few interior elements of the all-new MG Hector. Icing on cake is the Internet Inside logo which truly justify its work utilizing the ‘i-Smart’ technology which offers more than 50 connectivity features and 100+ voice commands from a 5G ready machine to machine SIM card provided by Airtel, where you get a free subscription for all the premium apps and connectivity updates on the Hector for almost three years.

MG offers three engine variants inside the Hector, available in both diesel and petrol powertrains. The 1.5-litre petrol engine provides 141 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm of peak torque at 1,600 to 3,600 rpm. On the other hand, 2.0-litre diesel engine on the Hector bursts out 168 bhp at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. And how can we forget about the mild hybrid petrol variant which offers 48-volt battery setup and an integrated starter generator along with optimum torque boost when required. You’ll also get to see a fully automatic 7-speed dual clutch transmission, which is only available on the petrol variants of the MG Hector. This FCA-sourced 2-litre diesel engine present on the MG Hector is exactly the same which you see on the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass.

In terms of ride quality and handling, both the diesel and petrol variants of the car outshines in its segment. Although the diesel powertrain feels much better and torquey in terms of driveability as compared to petrol. The performance offered on the MG Hector is way lot more tamed, which feels excellent when spun on for long trips and weekend rides. But being a tamed machine doesn’t mean that its an underpowered car, Hector offers an enormous amount of power and torque figures when required from that fiat sourced transmission. The all-new MG Hector can quickly overtake any sort of terrain and highways just with the word go. But MG could have improved the NVH levels and steering feel of the Hector which feels too soft for an SUV. Even after being a tall SUV, Hector efficiently manages to reduce body roll on sharp twisties and turns. Suspension setup also manages to do a great job in maintaining a comfortable ride quality. Although the suspension setup does fade a bit on broken roads and potholes, which kind of disturbs the passengers sitting in the car to an extent. But, no matter if its the low-end, mid-range, or the top-end of this car, MG Hector is very lively to drive in spite of the amount of turbo lag that you feel under 2000 rpm.

If we talk about the overall verdict of the MG Hector, it’s a great fun to drive car if you like a calm and joyful office to weekend ride along with some decent performance on the go. Another reason for which you should consider buying the all-new MG Hector is it’s class-leading best in segment features on offer. Although it cannot be compared with Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass in terms of built quality, performance and engineering but in some particular dimensions, Hector turns out to be even better than its all other rivals.

So if you guys want a well designed and technology focussed machine that can even satisfy your performance desires than go for the MG Hector, but if you guys want more of a performance oriented and comfortable machine then you should go for the Jeep Compass.
