Mahindra XUV 300 is inspired by from the Korean Sub 4 Meter SUV SsangYong Tivoli. Yes, you heard that right, though Mahindra has revised and rebadged the entire vehicle thoroughly. Still, there are a few bits of Tivoli design seen on the car. Mahindra XUV 300 gets best in class design on the outside comprising of a sharp body lining that goes along with a Single Unit LED DRL fog lamps and headlamps, garnishing LED taillamps and a roof-mounted spoiler to justify the sporty appeal of the car. And if we’re talking about the sporty appeal, you’ll even get to see a set of 17-inch Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels running on the Mahindra XUV 300.

Even after being a compact SUV, Mahindra XUV 300 doesn’t provide enough storage space and knee room as it was supposed to be. However, if we keep the space section apart, XUV 300 offers a great dual-tone cabin along with a silver finish on the dash and centre console with piano black touches on the door armrest. Other impressive interior elements include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, leather seats, push-button start function and a multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel. Considering other storage spaces, Mahindra XUV 300 offers decent storage spaces for phones, bottles, wallet and more.

Mahindra XUV 300 is available in 2 engine variants. First on is a 1.2-Litre Petrol engine that pumps out 110bhp of power at 5000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 2000-3500rpm. Second is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder Diesel engine, same which is seen on the Mahindra Marrazo. However, the 1.5 litres Marrazo derived diesel motor is tuned very differently form Mahindra Marrazo to deliver 115bhp of power at 3,750rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,500rpm straight from the word “GO”. Both engine variants get mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Handling part on the Mahindra XUV 300 is something which Mahindra boasts about. Although it cannot beat the handling quality present on the Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon, still it manages to provide the best in segment engine performance on offer. And if we talk about engine performance, it has enough punch to quickly overtake and drive even if the vehicle is in third gear. Ride quality is really impressive, all you have to do is just hit the pedals to the floor and watch it glide over the roads and rough terrains. The most significant factor which pulls back the XUV 300 from its current market rivals is its unusual gear transactions and braking which could be much better. Apart from that, the new Mahindra XUV 300 is a great vehicle to drive if all you want is a performance SUV with a bunch of loaded new in segment features.

Overall, Mahindra XUV 300 is a great sub 4 meter SUV in terms of performance and design. However, the vehicle does get a bit of downvote if we talk about the equipment and overall fit and finish of the car. Safety and infotainment features are also not that great as compared to other sub 4 meter SUV’s in the segment like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. But, for people who are looking for an SUV’s that’s best for family adventures and long drives, and also a car that just blows like the wind just with the word go, Mahindra XUV 300 is the only option in the segment that you should consider.
